DESCRIPTION
Intended primarily for solvent based
paints but can be incorporated in
SOME water-borne systems. Addition
levels are critical and have to be
carefully determined for each product,
care must also be taken to avoid
contamination of other nonhammertone
paints.
HOW TO USE
Additive concentration, solvent type
and level, resin stability, paint
viscosity and application spraying
pressure all contribute significantly to
the type of hammertone finish
obtained. Proper control of all these
variables is essential in order to obtain
a satisfactory product.
DOW CORNING 61 Additive is
usually added to solvent based
coatings during the final thinning
stage, but in water based coatings is
often incorporated with the resin prior
to letdown.
Amount needed
The effects of DOW CORNING 61
Additive should always be tested in
the laboratory prior to its use on a
production scale. Scale of
manufacture may affect hammertone
pattern size and attention must be
given to thorough mixing of the paint.
The amount of DOW CORNING 61
Additive required depends on a
number of factors such as the type of
paint, the solvent it contains, the resin
and pigment system and the total
system solids.
Concentrations may vary from 0.05 to
0.5%
Diluting the additive
If dilution of DOW CORNING 61
Additive is desired - as when adding
an extremely small amount - it may be
